Michael & Hamish were presented with the unique challenge and significant responsibility of polishing a rough diamond stunningly located between Cottesloe’s iconic Tukurua and landmark mansion Le Fanu.

Understanding and interpreting the clients' requirements, Michael & Hamish Design Studio designed sophisticated yet relaxed spaces within and around this newly acquired family home. Retaining and producing a strong connection to the ocean and the Cottesloe lifestyle remained a focus throughout.
A strong penchant for comfort and relaxed sophistication, with practical material selections, drove the stunning choice of colour palette, textures and finishes. Cabinet and furniture design connects the spaces and provides a practical and beautiful link within the working areas of the home.
A delicate balance of retaining the existing value of the original architecture
while maximising the design opportunities of this major renovation led to a creative and innovation-focused design response.
The original ramped entrance and first-floor atrium are proudly celebrated with new custom-created finishes including bespoke whitewash timber cladding.
Internally, original brick made way for clean painted walls, allowing natural
timbers, stones and washroom porcelains to visually breathe. Continuity was
achieved throughout by the clever use of flooring, wall and ceiling materials,
linking together previously disconnected areas of the home.
Original glass louvres, portions of exposed corrugated ceilings, and exposed concrete slab produce notes of the original heritage and bring forth a sense of retained value.
Merging a ground-floor motorcycle studio, gymnasium and an alfresco living
room with a decidedly industrial feel made perfect use of the original exposed concrete.
Flanked by good company, the quietly beautiful home sits comfortably and calmly on Marine Parade in Cottesloe.
