YOKINE
The winner of the 2015 HIA-polytec Perth Housing Awards in the Small Lot Housing $250,001-$400,000 category, this double-storey home is positioned on a cramped 260sqm site at the rear of another house.
The designer – Mark Anthony Design – and builder – DnD Building – maximised every square metre of the space to ensure the homeowners could enjoy spacious family living in a quality context.
A dark, moody colour palette to the external rendering sets the scene for the sleek fitout that waits indoors.
As guests enter through the secure automatic gate access, polished blackbutt timber flooring leads to the open-plan meals area with 32 course ceilings and the adjacent alfresco.
The chef's kitchen is especially appealing, with extensive cupboard and bench space for meal preparation, stone tops, double sinks, a double-drawer dishwasher, breakfast bar, quality appliances, and pendant lighting.
For dedicated movie nights, the theatre room has been constructed with coffered ceiling and feature lighting to set the scene, and is finished with comfortable furniture and premium audiovisual technology.
Generous built-in and walk-in robes feature in the bedrooms, while the bathrooms are fitted with full-height tiling and double-vanity basins.
SOUTH GUILDFORD
Continuing DnD Building's award-winning streak, this South Guildford Home was
the winner of the 2015 HIA Perth Housing Awards – Custom Built Home Up to $350,000, and a finalist for the John Pietersen Awards for Custom Built Home of the Year.
The clients' vision was for the creation of a bespoke single-storey family home that featured four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a powder room. It was also important the home had sufficient space in which the children could roam. The double-brick construction and render finish to the front and alfresco make an enduring statement, as does the Colorbond steel metal roof and quality ceramic tiling to the bathrooms and laundry.
High ceilings, custom cornices and light timber flooring create the inviting sense of openness indoors. The designer kitchen is intelligently positioned within the living zone, for visual and audial connection to the lounge and meals area that the children may utilise for homework. As a high-traffic area, it was decided that high-quality appliances and materials such as the kitchen's gloss-white stone benchtops were essential.
To complete the humble family home, DnD Building installed a barbecue and kitchenette in the alfresco, and a children's play area with a built-in 'peek' window.
