Featured Events

Kate Ceberano and Carl Mackey (MEL)

Join the talented Kate Ceberano and Carl Mackey for “Nancy Wilson & Cannonball Adderly”; a series of arrangements made famous by this jazz pair. Featuring songs such as “The Masquerade Is Over”, “Save Your Love For Me” and “A Sleepin’ Bee”, it is sure to be an evening to remember.

Melissa Aldana Quartet

Chilean saxophonist and composer Melissa Aldana is considered one of the most compelling tenor saxophonists on the scene. Having released four recordings as her quartet's leader (most recently, 'Back Home'), this "bold new talent" (NPR) will present an exciting program of works reflective of her South American heritage at this year's festival.

Libby Hammer Club Choir Rehearsal

Join the community singing craze in this exciting event led by jazz singer Libby Hammer! Libby will teach a different song in each session in three or four part harmony in an inclusive, stress-free environment – all for the love of music!

Ben Matthews presents LiveWyre

Drawing influence from cinematic, neo-soul, groove, jazz and fusion sounds, LiveWyre blends traditional jazz genres through the dynamic talents of Daniel Susnjar (drums), Sean Little (saxophone), Joe Southwell (bass) and three-time WAM Song of the Year nominee Ben Matthews (piano).

Niran Dasika (AU) and Sumire Kuribayashi (JPN)

Inspired by the 'nihonga' paintings of Kaii Higashiyama, trumpeter Niran Dasika is set to join forces with pianist Sumire Kuribayashi for this groundbreaking project. Gaining increasing attention following placing second at the 2017 National Jazz Awards, Niran has just released his latest album 'Suzaku' through Japanese jazz label Apollo Sounds Records, which is highly indicative of his distinctive sound and virtuosic technique.

Anita Wardell (UK)

Two-time winner of the BBC Jazz Award, Anita Wardell is highly regarded for her scat singing and vocalised version of Lee Morgan's solo from 'Moanin'. Proclaimed "a model of the Jazz singer's art" by The Guardian, Wardell's emotional resonance, clarity and phenomenal improvisational skills are not to be missed.

Trio ELF (GER) 

Part of the new German jazz generation, the unique Trio ELF sound is a formula of club culture, house and grand piano musical stylings – making for a very sonically diverse and genre-defying experience in performance.

Charanee Wade (USA)

The first artist ever to enter two Thelonious Monk Vocal competitions, Wade's star is on the rise. Known for her expert vocal improvisational ability and seriously swinging groove, she evokes a classic jazz sound akin to Betty Carter and Sarah Vaughan - two of her musical touchstones.

Sara McDonald NYChillharmonic (NYC)

Based in Brooklyn, Sara McDonald is an acclaimed bandleader, composer, arranger and vocalist – and has notably established the NYChillharmonic, a 22-piece progressive jazz orchestra. Since its inception four years ago, the ensemble has performed all over the world and is renowned for its original, richly-layered orginal works.
