Combining function, form and style means proven success for this award-winning landscaper.
Joining the early planning stage of this home, prior to the plans being finalised, allowed Tim Davies Landscaping (TDL) to finalise a design that would serve the family as a functional entertaining area with a contemporary feel.
Complementing the home's architecture, the approved plan incorporates an outdoor kitchen, pool and spa, and various entertainment areas for adults and the clients' teenage children.
To combat the site's cap rock and limestone (not unusual for this coastal location), TDL used rock breakers and excavators to prepare the areas for the pool, retaining walls and tree planting. To assist this, the pool walls were constructed to take the weight of limestone retaining walls while supporting the existing ground levels. A combination of materials was used to address the contemporary style of house, as well as to help define different areas.
Granite cobbles were used in the entry, exposed aggregate for the driveway and transition paths, and timber decking to define the entertaining space (alfresco and pool area).
Planting was designed to be functional, providing shade, screening and a lush backdrop where required. It also had to withstand coastal conditions and the different requirements of the clients.
Hardier coastal plant species were planted on the verge, while some lusher varieties could be planted within the protection of the front boundary wall.
Trees were planted to help scale the house within the streetscape.
Despite the challenging site, TDL succeeded in the creation of a casual family entertaining area that exudes a functional yet contemporary feel that the clients adore.
