The German Film Festival returns on May 4th for 2023, presented by Palace Cinemas. Here's the five films you won't want to miss, as curated by festival director Bettina Kinski.

1. The Teacher's Lounge

When one of her students is suspected of theft, teacher Carla Nowak decides to get to the bottom of the matter. Caught between her ideals and the school system, the consequences of her actions threaten to break her.

2. Sisi & I

A story of the rich and powerful in the late 19th century; this wild reinterpretation of the 'sisi" myth starring Susanne Wolff and Sandra Hüller follows the lady-in-waiting of Empress Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary, as they live in an aristocratic commune in Greece.

3. Skin Deep

At first glance, Leyla and Tristan seem like a happy young couple. But when they travel to a mysterious, remote island, a game of identities begins, which changes everything.

4. The Fox

Featuring up-and-coming star Simone Morzé this touching story based on true events follows an introverted motorcycle courier for the Austrian Army who finds friendship with a young fox cub early in WWII.

5. Franky Five Star

This comedy/drama follows Franky, a woman who suffers from multiple-personality disorder. She's having a hard time managing the four other characters living inside her. They seem to dwell in an old-fashioned hotel in the middle of nowhere.
