Some of the notable museums in the area include: The Museum of the Goldfields, located in Kalgoorlie, is open daily from 10 am to 3 pm, except on major holidays. It showcases the history of the Eastern Goldfields and the city's mining heritage. Visitors can explore the largest display of the state's collection of gold bars and nuggets, learn about prospecting, and see the mining entrepreneur Claude DeBernale's Perth office and Kalgoorlie boardroom. The museum also features unique buildings and displays, such as the 1930s Miners Cottage, Woodline Police Office, and the British Arms Hotel.
The Western Australian Museum offers a glimpse into the region's natural history and bird observatory. It is situated near the iconic Ivanhoe Headframe, which is a Kalgoorlie landmark. Visitors can learn about Aboriginal people's use of yiwarra (ancient tracks, networks, and trade routes) throughout Western Australia and gain insights into the mining history of the region and the migrant workers who contributed to it. The museum also displays rare trade union banners from the Goldfields. Entry to these museums is free, but donations are always welcome.
