Description
Acraman Creek Conservation Park is a protected area in South Australia, located on the northern side of Streaky Bay and west of the Eyre Peninsula.
It covers an area of 39.53 square kilometres and was proclaimed in 1991 under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972. The park is named after Acraman Creek, which flows through it.
The conservation park boasts diverse habitats, including Acraman Creek estuary, sand dunes, ocean beaches, mangrove, samphire, and mallee habitats. It is home to various bird species, including migratory waders like sandpipers and stilts that travel from the Arctic Circle. The park is an important feeding location for these birds, making it a prime spot for birdwatching.
Visitors to Acraman Creek Conservation Park can enjoy a range of outdoor activities, such as bush camping, fishing, boating, and canoeing. The park has a bush camping ground and an accessible ocean beach for conventional vehicles. Divers can also explore the remains of a shipwreck from the whaling days, located slightly offshore.
The conservation park is classified as an IUCN Category VI protected area and was listed on the former Register of the National Estate in the 1990s.
