Description
Angourie Back Beach, also known as Angourie Point, is a popular surf break in Yamba, Australia. It is a point break type wave that offers consistent surf throughout the year. The wave faces can range from 2ft to 10ft in height. The offshore winds that are favorable for surfing are from the west, north-west, south-west, south, and south-south-east. The swell window is from the north-east, east, south-east, and south (weak).
The length of ride is about 100-150m.
Angourie Point is generally busy, especially during peak surf seasons. It experiences average localism. It is ideal for intermediate surfers as the wave can be challenging. Surfers should be cautious of sharks, rocks, and locals. There is a dangerous exposed rock section known as 'life and death' towards the end of the ride.
There are other nearby waves in the area. Angourie or Back Lefts is a left point break located on the south side of Angourie Point. It requires moderate-sized swells and offers wave faces ranging from 3ft to 10ft in height. Angourie Beach Break is a decent beach break on the southern side of the point, protected during summer NE winds. Spookies is a short but hollow right point break located to the north. It works in similar conditions as Angourie and can hold larger waves. The wave faces at Spookies range from 3ft to 12ft+ in height, with a short ride length of about 80-100m.
