Description
Angourie Beach, located in Yamba, New South Wales, Australia, is a popular surf spot known for its consistent waves.
The beach features Angourie Point, a right-hand point break with offshore winds from the southwest. It is suitable for both groundswells and wind swells, with the best swell direction coming from the east or southeast.
Angourie Point is a point break wave with a size range of 2ft to 10ft (~4 to 20 feet wave faces). The ideal offshore wind directions for this wave are West, North West, South west, South, and South-South East. It is suitable for swells from the North East, East, South East, or South, although they tend to be relatively weak. The nearest town to Angourie Point is Yamba, and the length of the ride spans about 100-150m.
Angourie Beach is often crowded, especially during peak season. The locals at the beach are average in competitiveness. This surf spot is most suitable for intermediate level surfers. The surf break has an exposed rock section called 'life and death' towards the end of the ride, which can be dangerous when the swells are large. Additionally, sharks have been sighted, so caution must be exercised when paddling out.
In close proximity to Angourie Point are other noteworthy surf spots. Angourie or Back Lefts is a low to medium quality left point break located on the south side of Angourie Point. It requires moderate-size swells and offers a moderate-length ride of up to about 150m. Angourie Beach Break, also situated on the southern side
