Description

Anstey Hill Recreation Park is a reserved area of public land located in the foothills of the Mount Lofty Ranges, about 19 km northeast of Adelaide's central business district.

Managed by the City of Tea Tree Gully, the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources, and The Friends of Anstey Hill, the park covers an area of 362 hectares and is designated for recreational walking. It features short seasonal creeks, low hills, and steep-sided gullies, and is home to rare or vulnerable native plants and animals as well as invasive species. The park also houses the Mannum-Adelaide pipeline and the Anstey Hill water filtration plant.

Visitors to Anstey Hill Recreation Park can explore its historical sites, including preserved ruins and interpretive signs such as Newman’s Nursery, Ellis Cottage, and Rumps Bakery. The park also has quarries that played a significant role in the area's development. Walking trails follow the fire access tracks, and passive recreation such as walking dogs on leads is allowed, while horses and motor vehicles are not permitted.

In 2006, the park management proposed the creation of designated zones for mountain biking in response to its popularity in the Adelaide area. The park experiences an average annual rainfall of 580 to 820 mm and has a climate characterized by hot and dry summers with average maximum temperatures of 28 °C to 29 °C, and wetter winters with an average maximum temperature of 14.6 °C in July.

Situated on steeply sloping land, the park's elevation ranges from approximately 220 m to 420 m above mean sea level. It was previously used for agriculture after European settlement and is located in Kaurna land
