Description
An architectural museum is a museum dedicated to educating visitors about architecture in general or with a focus on a specific architectural style.
Architecture museums can also educate visitors about traditional architecture or art history, which can provide useful context for many architectural exhibitions. The first museum in the world dedicated exclusively to the discipline of architecture was the Shchusev Architectural Museum in Moscow in 1934, followed by the Finnish Architectural Museum in 1956. Other museums are not exclusively devoted to architecture but contain sections related to architecture (such as Metz Museums in Metz, France), architecture halls (like the Chicago Athenaeum, in Chicago, Illinois, USA) or architecture. Galleries (such as the University of South Australia Museum of Architecture in Mount Gambier, South Australia). The International Confederation of Architectural Museums is an international organization of architectural museums. Members are museums, centers, collections and other institutions that offer permanent exhibitions or galleries on the subject of architecture.
