Description
Armands Beach Bermagui is the only legally clothes optional beach on the Sapphire Coast.
It was declared a clothes optional beach by Bega Valley Shire Council in November 1993. Located in Barragga Bay, it is a must-visit destination for those who prefer swimming and sunbathing in the nude.
To get to Armands Beach, drive south along the Tathra-Bermagui Road for 9.5 kilometres from Bermagui until you reach Barragga Bay. From there, turn left into Kullaroo Road and follow the sealed road until you see the Armands Beach sign. If you are coming from Tathra, drive north for 38 kilometres along the Tathra-Bermagui Road to Barragga Bay, turning right into Kullaroo Road.
The beach was named after Armand Lemmeric, a man of French origin who owned a farm behind Armands Bay. Lemmeric was known for frequently swimming nude at the beach, and in the 1930s, nude cricket matches were held there.
Armands Beach is an excellent destination for nude swimming and sunbathing. Remember to bring all that you need and to take everything away with you when you leave.
For those looking for more activity, the Armands Beach Leisure Group hosts seasonal events.
The beach is open to visitors year-round, but it is recommended to go during the warmer months between November and April to take advantage of the sunshine and warm water.
