Lake Elizabeth

Located deep in the Otways, Lake Elizabeth Barramunga offers a breathtaking sight with heavily timbered flanks and calm waters punctuated by the trunks of dead trees, drowned when the valley was flooded to form this "perched lake" over half a century ago.

Visitors can camp by the bank of the east branch of the Barwon River, which is sheltered by tall Eucalypts trees, providing a perfect camping experience. The campground is conveniently situated, offering easy access to the lake, which is a scenic 20-minute walk away.

Lake Elizabeth Barramunga is perfect to visit all year round, but autumn and spring are the best times for camping and wildlife observation. Visitors can relax in a serene and tranquil environment, taking part in several outdoor activities such as hiking, birdwatching swimming, and kayaking.

Lake Elizabeth Barramunga is easily accessible by road. Visitors can take the Colac-Lavers Hill Road, turn off onto Barramunga Road, and then take the Rowe Road to reach the lake. The scenic drive is approximately a 2-hour drive from Melbourne, making it a perfect destination for a weekend trip or a day tour.
