Campbell Rhododendron Gardens

The Campbell Rhododendron Gardens in Blackheath are a stunning mix of flora, featuring exotic rhododendrons, azaleas, maples, and deciduous trees planted among Australian native eucalypts and bushland.

Covering 18.3 hectares (45 acres), these gardens are an excellent destination for tourists.

Visitors can explore the gardens all year round, but the best time to visit is from late-September to mid-November when the rhododendron and azalea blooms burst forth in beautiful shades of pink, yellow, and purple. In April, the autumn colors are glorious, and bare branches create sculptural patterns against the native shrubs.

During the peak season of October and November, visitors can enjoy the Lodge Rhodo Tea Room, which offers the best 'Aussie Cream Teas' in the Blue Mountains. Easy walking tracks take no more than an hour to stroll, and visitors can bring their picnic basket and rug down into the valley for a rest with family and friends. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on leads. The lakeside provides stunning reflections for photography, and a new fountain and cascade area have been added for visitors to enjoy. For those with difficulty walking, there is a lookout near the Lodge that is accessible.

The gardens are open throughout the year, with no restricted access except for some areas during off-peak periods. They are an easy walk from the Blackheath railway station and are located off the Great Western Highway.

A donation of AU$5.00 per person is payable on entry. The garden is managed entirely by volunteers who rely on the generosity of visitors to maintain its pristine condition.
