Peepul Tree

Peepul Tree, also known as Ficus religiosa, is a sacred species of fig native to the Indian subcontinent and Indochina.

It is revered by followers of Hinduism, Jainism, and Buddhism. The tree, planted in the early 1880s, is the largest and oldest of its kind in Brisbane, Queensland. It can be found in the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens on Alice Street. The park is known for its mature gardens and rare plant species. It is a popular destination for both locals and tourists, offering picnic areas, walking trails, playgrounds, cafes and restaurants, and hosting various events throughout the year. In addition to the Peepul Tree, the park is home to other trees and plants, including the Cigar Box Cedar. It also supports a diverse range of wildlife, such as birds, lizards, and possums.
