The grassy woodlands of the Maranoa River offer an open area to explore and take in the natural surroundings. The sandstone cliffs of the park lead up to the basalt-topped ridges of the Great Dividing Range, offering a change in scenery and a chance to explore the rugged peaks, escarpments, and gorges of the area.

The Consuelo Tableland, at more than 1000 metres above sea level, boasts spectacular views of the surrounding mountain ranges. Hiking and camping are popular activities in the park, with several trails suitable for different experience levels. If you are an experienced hiker, try the 130km Carnarvon Great Walk; a trail that passes through several areas of the Carnarvon National Park, including Mount Moffatt. During the warmer months, from October to April, the park can be more challenging to navigate due to heavy rainfalls and high humidity levels.

Mount Moffatt is located in the central highlands of Queensland, approximately 220km from Roma. To get there, take the Carnarvon Highway from Roma, then take the turnoff to Mount Moffatt.
