Description

Corny Point Lighthouse is a historic lighthouse located on Corny Point in Spencer Gulf, South Australia.

It was commissioned in 1882 to help ships navigate the hazardous western coast of the peninsula. The lighthouse also provided refuge in Hardwicke Bay during bad weather. In 1920, it was converted to automatic operation and underwent significant changes, including the demolition of the keeper accommodations and modernization of the light. Despite these changes, the lighthouse remains an important part of South Australia's history and serves as a reminder of coastal life in the past. Visitors can still visit the lighthouse today and enjoy the breathtaking views of Spencer Gulf and the surrounding landscape. It has been listed on the South Australian Heritage Register since 1980, ensuring its preservation for future generations.
