Description

Located on the eastern slopes of Mount Lofty in the Adelaide Hills, the Mount Lofty Botanic Garden is a must-visit destination for nature-lovers.

Opened in 1977, the 100-hectare garden is shaped like a crescent and boasts a picturesque landscape that is home to a diverse range of plant species.

The garden's cooler and wetter location makes it an ideal place to grow plants from temperate climates. Due to this location, the garden offers visitors a unique experience that cannot be found on the Adelaide Plains. The garden is home to some exceptional native Australian flora that includes tree ferns, and exotic cultivated plants from cooler climates such as Rhododendron and Magnolia. In addition to these, the garden is also home to the National Species Rose Collection.

The Mount Lofty Botanic Garden is one of the 3 botanic gardens administered by the Botanic Gardens of South Australia, which is a State Government statutory authority. All visitors can enjoy the serene and calm atmosphere of the garden, where they can learn more about the flora and fauna of the area, as well as the importance of preserving and protecting them.

In recognition of its significance, the Mount Lofty Botanic Garden was listed on the Australian National Heritage List, which aims to protect and preserve sites of outstanding heritage significance. The Mount Lofty Botanic Garden provides its visitors with a unique experience that they will not forget. So, come and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the garden and leave with a wealth of knowledge about the plants and flora from different climatic regions.
