Tadpole Cove Walk is a scenic coastal walk located in Cape Gantheaume Conservation Park, D'estrees Bay.
It offers great views of unusual coastal scenery along with a glimpse of early settlement heritage sites. This walk is an excellent way to explore the natural beauty of the area while enjoying some light exercise.
The walk starts at an old grain threshing floor, used by early settlers to process locally grown grain. Along the way, you'll enjoy the ruins of a small cottage dating from the same period. The walk then meanders through regenerating vegetation to a lookout above Tadpole Cove, which is named after an unusual rock formation in the centre of the cove. The cove features calm waters that offer a fantastic opportunity to watch for ospreys soaring along the cliff edge as they hunt for fish in the cove.
The best time to go on the Tadpole Cove Walk is between March and November when the weather is cooler. During this time, you can avoid the summer heat and humidity and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the conservation park.
The walk begins in the car park adjacent to the threshing floor just south of Wreckers Beach, D’Estrees Bay Road. It's about a 20-minute drive from Kingscote or a 90-minute drive from Penneshaw Ferry Terminal. The road to the car park is unsealed, so it's recommended to use a 4WD or a high clearance vehicle.
