Description

Located in the Gulf St Vincent, approximately 74 kilometers southwest of Adelaide, Troubridge Hill Lighthouse was constructed in 1856 to prevent ships from becoming stranded on Troubridge Shoals.

It has played a significant role in marine navigation for over a century. Czech-born surrealist artist Voitre Marek served as the lighthouse keeper for Troubridge Island in the late 1950s. Troubridge Island Lighthouse, located approximately 8 kilometers southeast by east of Edithburgh on Yorke Peninsula, was built in 1856. It was replaced by Troubridge Hill Lighthouse, which is located to the west of the Troubridge Shoals. Troubridge Island Lighthouse was listed on the now-defunct Register of the National Estate in 1978. Presently, Troubridge Island Conservation Park offers tours of Troubridge Island Lighthouse and its adjacent Troubridge Island Lighthouse Keepers' Cottages.
