Description

Melton Reservoir Exford, also known as Exford Weir, is a popular recreational destination located on the Werribee River, approximately 6 km south of Melton between Bacchus Marsh and Melton in Australia.

The reservoir was built in 1916 to provide water for irrigation around Werribee.

At Melton Reservoir, visitors can enjoy a range of activities from picnicking, fishing to boating. The area near the dam's southern wall has a recreational reserve that can be accessed from the Exford Road entrance. The reserve has various facilities like picnic areas, a half volleyball court, children's playground, toilets, and BBQ facilities. Land-based fishing is permitted anywhere on the reservoir shoreline, which can be accessed via Clarkes Road or Waterford Estate. The reservoir is popular for redfin, carp, and estuary perch. Visitors can also hire a boat, or bring their own, and enjoy the scenic views of the reservoir and the viaduct. Powered boating south of the railway bridge is under the control of the Melbourne Runabout and Speedboat Club.

The Melton Viaduct, which passes over the Melton Reservoir, adds to the beauty of the area. It was opened in 1886 and is a heritage-listed site. While visiting Melton Reservoir, visitors can enjoy the scenic views of both the reservoir and the viaduct.

The best time to visit Melton Reservoir is during the summer months from December to February when the weather is warm and sunny.

To get to Melton Reservoir, visitors can take a train to Melton Station and then take a taxi or drive to the reservoir. It is located approximately 45 km west of Melbourne's central
