Originally called Western Gully, the park has a rich history and features a war memorial and a grand old bandstand. The park was transformed into a park in 1872 and named after former Geelong mayor Robert De Bruce Johnstone. It boasts an octagonal wooden bandstand that was erected in 1873 and remains the centerpiece of the park. The park also features the Belcher Fountain, which was installed in 1912 and later restored and reinstalled near its original location in 2008.
