Description

Big Tree Guildford is a historical site that is home to an ancient River Red Gum tree.

It stands 30m tall with a canopy spread of 34m and trunk circumference of 9.35m, making it one of the largest examples of the species in Victoria.

The park across from the tree has a picnic/play area with stunning views of the surrounding fields. The playground features slides, monkey bars, and swings for children of all ages. Picnicking is convenient with multiple picnic tables on the grassy lawn, some shaded by trees. There is also a free barbecue and bench seating under an undercover area.

Information signs located nearby provide details about the tree, including its species name, size, and age. The Big Tree is an ecosystem that sustains a variety of bird and animal life, and it is an important symbol for the Dja Dja Wurrung Aboriginal people.

Guildford Lookout, located nearby, offers panoramic views of the town and surrounding fields, including Mount Alexander and the distant Macedon Ranges.

Big Tree Guildford can be visited all year round, but the best time to visit is during the spring and autumn months when the weather is mild.

Big Tree Guildford is located in the town of Guildford along the Midland Highway. It is 16kms from Castlemaine and 42kms from Bendigo. Visitors can reach the site by car, with parking available in the park newline.
