Description

Maize Island Lagoon Conservation Park is a protected natural area located in Holder, South Australia.

It covers an area of 2.14 square kilometers and offers a diverse ecosystem showcasing the Murray River flood plain habitats.

The park's history dates back to December 1966 when it was established as a fauna reserve. It was later declared as conservation land in April 1972 and has since undergone expansions to include additional sections, making it accessible to the public.

The conservation park is home to a unique mix of vegetation, including Eucalyptus trees, Muehlenbeckia cunninghamii, Eremophila divaricata, and Dodonaea angustissima. These different habitats support a variety of bird species, including the uncommon regent parrot, as well as native and introduced grasses.
