Cooper Creek (Nappamerrie Station)

Nappa Merrie Station is a working pastoral lease located in central west Queensland, Australia.

It covers 7,275 square kilometres and is owned by Morella Agriculture and managed by Peter Degoumois. The property is bounded by the South Australian border and has double frontage to Cooper Creek.

The traditional owners of the area are the Wongkumara people. Nappa Merrie is part of a natural floodplain and contains low-lying swamps that provide excellent feed after floodouts. The homestead is built above and adjacent to the Nappa Merrie waterhole.

In 1871, John Conrick became the first owner of the station. The Conrick family remained on the station for 83 years, mostly using it for grazing sheep. The Tancred brothers invested in the company in the late 1940s, expanding cattle grazing after sinking bores in the plains away from the channel country. The property was hit by a drought in 1946.

The Burke and Wills Dig Tree is located close to the Bullah Bullah waterhole, about 6 kilometres from the station homestead. It is a popular attraction, with approximately 30,000-35,000 visitors each year.

Currently, Nappa Merrie Station can carry 11,000 head of cattle and is managed by Peter Degoumois. It is an integral part of the Channel Country of Queensland and offers visitors the opportunity to learn about the traditional owners and the history of the property. Despite natural disasters, the station continues to provide high-quality produce to the community.
