Description

Yellow Water Jabiru, also known as Ngurrungurrudjba, is a stunning landlocked billabong and one of the most renowned landmarks of the World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park.

The billabong is located near the small settlement of Cooinda, and it is an excellent place to witness the richness of native flora and fauna.

The best way to enjoy the park's wildlife is aboard a Yellow Water Cruise, which takes you to the heart of the billabong. During the cruise, you will have a chance to observe some of the most spectacular wildlife, including crocodiles, wild horses, buffalo, and many other native species. The billabong is also home to a vast range of birdlife, such as jacana, egrets, jabiru, sea eagles, and magpie geese.

In addition to the boat cruise, visitors can also explore the billabong and its surroundings on foot. Stroll along the boardwalks on the water's edge to study the Paperbark forests, pandanus, and fresh water mangroves that line the shore. The surface of the billabong is speckled with beautiful pink and white waterlilies, and the views of the surrounding scenery are breathtaking.

If you visit during the dry season, take the walk across the floodplains to a viewing platform on Home Billabong. This structure is an excellent place to enjoy an unforgettable Top End sunset.

Another must-see attraction while visiting Yellow Water Jabiru is the Warradjan Cultural Centre. This center houses a wealth of information about Aboriginal culture and offers an opportunity to learn more about the local people and their history.
