Description

Mount Bruce allows great opportunities to view the surrounding Hamersley Range and Marandoo mining operations.

The Aboriginal name for Mount Bruce is Punurrunha. At 1,234 metres high, it is Western Australia’s second tallest peak.

Iron ore mine
Marandoo is an iron ore mine run by Rio Tinto. It opened in October 1994. The Hamersley Range is one of the world’s major iron ore sources and contains about 80 per cent of Australia’s identified iron ore reserves.
Bushwalking
In hotter months, it is best to climb during the cooler parts of the day. Take plenty of drinking water and sun protection.
Marandoo View
500 metres, 30 minutes return, Class 2

Follow the path from the Mount Bruce car park to view the Marandoo iron ore mine site.


Honey Hakea Track
4.6 kilometres, 3 hours return, Class 3
This track continues on from Marandoo View to another vantage point further up the mountain. It enables views of the vegetation patterns in the mulga on the surrounding flats.

Mt Bruce Summit
9 kilometres, 6 hours return, Class 5
This walk is not for the faint-hearted. Some parts of walk trail are class 5 and require high level of fitness and experience, but this challenging walk will reward you with spectacular views of the landscape.
