Description

Cutta Cutta Caves Nature Park in Katherine is a must-visit destination for adventure seekers in the Top End.

The park offers stunning limestone formations, guided tours of the caves, and the chance to discover the unique wildlife and vegetation.

At Cutta Cutta Caves, visitors can explore limestone caverns and observe various bat species, including the rare ghost and leaf-nosed bats. There is also a chance to spot a brown tree snake on a cave ledge. Guided tours of the caves are available through Nitmiluk Tours, and visitors can book online. While waiting for the tours, visitors can take a short Tropical Savanna Walk to learn about the local plants.

The park and caves are closed from December to April due to heavy rainfall and flooding. Outside of this period, the park is open daily from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, except in November when it closes at 11:30 am. The park is easily accessible via the Stuart Highway, just 30 km south of Katherine. The park offers facilities such as a kiosk, picnic area, walking tracks, and public toilets. Information signs are also available to help navigate the park.

To ensure a safe and enjoyable visit, visitors should remember a few things. They need a permit for drone use and must follow the conditions. It is important not to touch or damage cave formations or take cultural items. Entering caves without a guide is strictly prohibited, and pets, nets, traps, and firearms are not allowed in the park. Visitors should also check their vehicles for weeds and cane toads.
