Description

Brimbank Park is a metropolitan regional park located in Keilor East, Melbourne, Australia.

Managed by Parks Victoria, the park offers a range of recreational activities in a beautiful natural setting.

The history of Brimbank Park is deeply rooted in indigenous culture, with evidence of human habitation dating back 40,000 years. The park is home to the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation. In 1940, the remains of an aboriginal person were discovered in a sandbank, dating back 12,000 years. The park's name comes from the tradition of driving stock around the brim of the bank by European settlers in the 1830s. The river flats on the east bank were used for market gardening until 1983.

Brimbank Park offers various recreational activities and facilities, including walking and cycling tracks, playgrounds, picnic areas, amenities, and a café. The park is located along the Old Calder Highway and has an entrance off Keilor Park Drive. The Maribyrnong River, which runs through the park, provides stunning views and is a major attraction. The 25km Maribyrnong River Trail starts in Brimbank Park, offering visitors a scenic stroll or bike ride along the river banks.

The park is home to diverse wildlife species, including swamp wallabies, blue-tongued lizards, and echidnas. Bird enthusiasts can spot various species of birds, such as parrots, herons, galahs, blue wrens, yellow-tailed thornbills, rosellas, flame robins, and the peregrine falcon.

Brimbank Park has implemented projects to enhance visitor experiences and promote environmental sustainability. In
