Awinya Creek

Tourist attractions

K'gari, QLD 4581

Description

Awinya Creek is a hidden paradise located on the west coast of Fraser Island (K’Gari), which is the world's largest sand island located in Queensland, Australia.

Fraser Island is famous for its natural beauty, and is a World Heritage Area, hence attracting a lot of tourists. While most tourists stick to the east coast, the west side of Fraser Island is an unexplored gem. It is estimated that for every 700 tourists on the east coast of Fraser Island, there is only one tourist on the west side, making it one of the most remote areas of the island. The beaches here are pristine, with clear turquoise blue water and sand so white that it will leave you mesmerized. Moreover, the beaches are more protected from wind and the sea is very calm, making it perfect for swimming.

Awinya Creek offers a tranquil and secluded spot to relax, swim, kayak, paddleboard, stroll along the beach or just sit back and unwind on the white sand. The turquoise waters of the ocean are clear and inviting, and the creek behind the beach offers a freshwater swim with tannin water. If you have the equipment, you can go for a kayak or paddleboard around the creek, which will give you spectacular views of mangroves and tannin waters. Visitors can also witness humpback whales from the west coast of Fraser Island during their annual migration from July to October.

You can visit Awinya Creek at any time of the year as it offers stunning views and tranquil surroundings throughout the year. The warmer months provide great weather for swimming and relaxing, while winter months provide opportunities to witness humpback whales.

The easiest way to reach Awinya Creek is by booking a day trip tour with Tasman Venture
