Champagne Pools

Tourist attractions

K'gari, QLD 4567

Description

The Champagne Pools are a collection of naturally formed rock pools located along 75 Mile Beach on Fraser Island.

These pools offer a unique swimming experience right on the edge of the ocean, with seafoam fizzing around visitors, giving the destination its name. It is important to be cautious of large waves that can sweep people into the pools, especially during high tide. The best time to visit the Champagne Pools is at mid-tide when breaking waves create a bubbly spa-like experience. Visitors should be mindful of their footing on the surrounding rocks to avoid any injuries. Access to the pools is available 24 hours a day, but visitors should check for any park alerts regarding access, closures, and conditions.

To reach the Champagne Pools, visitors must drive about 2.2km north along the beach from Indian Head. From there, a short boardwalk and stairs lead down to the pools. 4WDs can park on the beach or use the parking lot inland and follow the marked pathway. The boardwalk itself offers stunning coastal views before reaching the pools.

Access to the Champagne Pools is limited to high clearance 4WD vehicles and is only possible 2 hours before or after low tide. Visitors can reach Fraser Island by vehicle barge or plane, with flights departing from Hervey Bay and Maryborough. Private vessels can also access the island's western coastline by launching from mainland boat ramps and following navigational maps provided by Maritime Safety Queensland.

Facilities along the Champagne Pools boardwalk include a lookout and non-flush toilets, but there are no wheelchair-accessible facilities available. Visitors are encouraged to experience this
