Kinglake National Park

Kinglake National Park is an expansive protected area located in Central Victoria, Australia, just 50 kilometres northeast of Melbourne.

It offers a diverse range of natural experiences, including hiking tracks, picnic areas, and camping facilities. Masons Falls, a delightful picnic area within the park, features cascading falls and a profusion of natural flora. The park is also home to a variety of indigenous fauna species, such as wallabies, kangaroos, wombats, possums, and echidnas. Bird enthusiasts can enjoy spotting various bird species, including colourful cockatoos, king parrots, and the lyrebird.

The park has a rich history, having been logged in the early 20th century. Remnants of this logging can still be seen today. Rehabilitation work has been ongoing, and portions of the park have gradually reopened.

Previously, Kinglake National Park was home to the tallest tree in Victoria, the Eucalyptus Regnans. This towering tree stood at an impressive height of 91.6 metres in 2002. The park offers a book titled "Living with Fire: A brief history of fires in the Kinglake Ranges" by Stewart, Kath and Hawkins, Deidre, which provides further insight into the park's history.
