Description

Byron Bay Wildlife Sanctuary is a popular attraction in Knockrow, located 20 minutes south of Byron Bay.

With over 150 different animals, including native species, the sanctuary has been entertaining families for over 40 years. Visitors can enjoy a variety of animal encounters and keeper talks throughout the day, as well as activities such as feeding farm animals, cuddling baby chicks, and petting rabbits. The sanctuary is also home to koalas, kangaroos, crocodiles, snakes, and a bird aviary, with various reptile displays to see.

The sanctuary is open every day of the year except Christmas Day, from 9am to 5pm. During school holidays, kids can participate in the "Keeper for a Day" program, shadowing animal keepers to learn about animal care and feeding. Visitors can also enjoy the treehouse playground, water park, and an 18-hole mini golf course.

To get to the sanctuary, head south on the Pacific Hwy from Byron Bay until you reach Knockrow, then turn right into the Hinterland Way. Buses from Ballina and Byron Bay also provide transportation to the sanctuary. In addition to the animal encounters and activities, the sanctuary offers a selection of macadamia nuts, a cafe serving pancakes, and a bar with local beer and cocktails. It's the perfect spot for a family outing with plenty to see and do.
