Description

Barron Gorge National Park is a protected area located in the Cairns Region of Queensland, Australia.

It is nestled just 2 kilometers from Kuranda and is a significant area of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. The park offers two ways to traverse Barron Gorge: the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway and the Kuranda Scenic Railway. Barron Gorge is a gorge formed by the Barron River as it descends the eastern escarpment of the Atherton Tablelands. The park has two waterfalls on its tributaries, Stoney Creek Falls and Surprise Creek Falls. The park has a rich history dating back to 1885 and holds particular significance for the Djabugandji Bama, the traditional owners of the area. Visitors to the park can enjoy the diverse flora and fauna, including various bird species, nocturnal animals, and the occasional sighting of a southern cassowary.
