Description

Lake Monger Reserve is a stunning urban wetland located in suburban Perth, Western Australia.

It covers an area of 110 hectares and is situated between the suburbs of Leederville, Wembley, and Glendalough. The lake itself covers 70 hectares of open shallow water, with an island in the southwest corner.

Lake Monger is a popular tourist attraction, drawing up to 12,000 visitors per week. It offers a range of recreational facilities, including a 3.5-kilometer walking/cycling track that circles the lake. Visitors can enjoy bird watching and exercise while taking in the breathtaking views. The reserve also provides ample parking, playground equipment, and barbecue facilities for public use.

The flora and fauna of Lake Monger are diverse. In the past, the area was home to swampland trees, but today the vegetation consists mainly of rushes, wattle, tea tree, and Xanthorrhoea. There is a narrow strip of trees along the shoreline on the northern and eastern sides. The lake is also a habitat for various bird species, including black swans, cormorants, spoonbills, and pelicans. Indigenous turtles, skinks, frogs, and introduced fish species can also be found in the lake.
