Description
When the witnesses to a political assassination start to die in mysterious circumstances, a journalist (Warren Beatty) sets out to investigate.
Made between Klute (1971) and All the President’s Men (1976), The Parallax View is the most paranoid film in Pakula’s ‘paranoia trilogy’, with the director’s intention being to show that the sickness and perversion behind the assassination “comes from within the fabric of our own society.”
To this end he was aided by cinematographer Gordon Willis (who lensed The Godfather Part II that same year), a sensitive score by Michael Small and a uniformly strong cast.
For this 50th anniversary screening, Revelation has invited the Book-to-Film team to describe how Loren Singer’s 1970 novel became the inspiration for a film which, despite a lukewarm response at the time of its initial release, has since been hailed as an important and hugely influential film of its era.
