Elysian Rock Lookout

Tourist attractions

Leura, NSW 2780

Description

Elysian Rock Lookout Leura is a lesser-known viewpoint in the upper part of the Blue Mountains National Park, but it offers spectacular panoramic views.

It requires a 110-meter walk to reach the lookout, but the stunning scenery makes it worth it.

The lookout is located along the Prince Henry Cliff Walk and provides the opportunity to see other beautiful locations nearby. There are seats on each lookout where visitors can enjoy the sunrise or sunset with a friend or loved one.

Once at the Elysian Rock Lookout, visitors can expect breathtaking views at any time of day. The lookout consists of two small narrow areas connected by a concrete bridge. It is perched on a sandstone rock buttress, offering views across the valley to Mount Solitary, the ‘back’ of the Three Sisters, and Narrow Neck. The floor is mostly uneven, natural sandstone, and there is a bench seat with no shade. The lookout is right at the edge of the cliff.

The best time to visit the Elysian Rock Lookout is during the day, but it is also possible to enjoy a sunrise or sunset. Visitors should exercise caution if visiting at dusk or dawn.

To reach the lookout, head to Leuralla Gardens in Leura. The lookout is not clearly signposted, but it is located across the road from the Leuralla NSW Toy and Railway Museum. Park on Olympian Parade, Leura, and walk along the rocky path for 100 meters. The walk is only a 200-meter return walk.

It is important to note that the Elysian Rock Lookout is not wheelchair-friendly, and visitors should be cautious with children due to the uneven ground and low fences near the cliff edges.
