Description

Located in Merewether, the iconic Merewether Beach is a much-loved tourist spot and a popular beach among locals, located in the beautiful state of New South Wales.

Known for its world-class surf break, the beach is home to the international surfing competition, Surfest, and provides visitors with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.

The beach reserve that stretches from Dixon Park in the north to Burwood Beach in the south offers a range of activities for visitors. There are several cafes located around the beach where you can enjoy a hot cup of coffee or other refreshing beverages as you watch the locals walking their dogs or surfers enjoying their day out on the water. During the summer season, the beach is home to many outdoor events such as musical performances and beach volleyball tournaments.

One of the highlights of this beach is the Merewether Ocean Baths, the largest ocean baths complex in the Southern Hemisphere. The baths are not your typical swimming pool and offer visitors a unique opportunity to take a refreshing swim while enjoying beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean. The complex includes two separate pools, one of which is Olympic-sized and can accommodate up to 200 swimmers. There is also an on-site cafe where you can grab a bite to eat after your swim.

Merewether Beach marks the starting point of the popular Bathers Way walk, which is a coastal walkway that stretches for 6 kilometres along the coastline. The walk connects several beaches in the city of Newcastle, including Glenrock State Conservation Area, Bar Beach, and Dixon Park Beach. Visitors can enjoy the stunning views of the coastline as they walk along the path and observe the wildlife, such as dolphins and sea birds.

The best time to visit Merewether Beach is during the summer months
