Description

Millaa Millaa Falls is a heritage-listed plunge waterfall located in the Atherton Tableland, adjacent to the town of Millaa Millaa in Queensland, Australia. The falls are approximately 18.3 metres (60 ft) high and have a pool at the base that is perfect for swimming.

They can be easily reached by a sealed road off the Palmerston Highway, about a five-minute drive from Millaa Millaa.

The falls were discovered during the exploration of overland routes connecting the Herberton mining fields with Queensland coastal ports. They are named after the nearby township, which is a phonetic adaptation of the Aboriginal word "Malay Malay". The area near the falls was used as a rest stop for early pack teams and campers constructing the railway line. Efforts by the Millaa Millaa Progress Association protected the falls, making it a popular stop for tours of the Atherton Tablelands. Public facilities were added over the years, including toilets, shelter sheds, and barbeques. The quarry next to the falls was converted into a car park and a walking track with steps leading to the falls viewing area.

Millaa Millaa Falls is formed from volcanic basalt and has vertical striations on the rock's surface. It stands at approximately 18.3 metres (60 ft) high and cascades into a pool surrounded by rainforest. There is a grassed viewing area and a concrete block pad on the water's edge. Concrete steps lead from the lower bus park to the viewing area, which is separated by a fence. There are also shelter
