Minnamurra River

Minnamurra River is a natural wonder located in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia.

It is an open mature wave dominated barrier estuary that attracts tourists who appreciate natural beauty and outdoor activities.

The river originates in the Budderoo National Park and flows east, passing the impressive Minnamurra Falls. It continues through the valley surrounded by Stockyard Mountain, Jamberoo Mountain, and Noorinan and Saddleback Mountains. The mouth of the river is located north of the Kiama suburb of Minnamurra, at Minnamurra Point.

In addition to its natural beauty, Minnamurra River has a significant history. In 1893, a tragic event occurred when four adults and three children drowned while rowing a small boat near the river's mouth. The boat was unable to withstand the heavy surf conditions.

The name Minnamurra River comes from the Aboriginal word "Meme Mora," which means "river of many fish." Today, the river is home to a variety of fish species and is a popular spot for fishing and other water activities.

Minnamurra River is easily accessible, as the Princes Highway crosses the river north of the Minnamurra suburb. With a descent of 306 meters over its 23-kilometer course, tourists have plenty of opportunities to appreciate the natural beauty of the river.
