Mornington Beach House

Mornington Beach House is a modern and characterful house located in Mornington, Victoria, Australia.

The house is situated near Melbourne on the Mornington Peninsula and creates two double-story houses on a lot facing Port Phillip Bay and bordering the mouth of a local creek. The design of the house seeks to bring foreshore pier proportions and detailing across the road and contribute to the public realm in the way it interacts with the creek mouth. The houses utilize a palette of materials appropriate to their coastal location and surrounds, integrating an indigenous coastal landscape to create a building with a sensitivity to its location. The Mornington Beach House is fully renovated and beautifully presented with an open plan kitchen and living area. The interior is clad almost exclusively in hoop pine ply, tacked in place and left unfinished, combined with Tasmanian oak floors, the material palette is warm and inviting. The house has a fantastic decking with a retractable awning that leads to the open plan kitchen and living area. The house has a deep connection with its environment experienced from within, exploring the idea of the timber beach shack. The house is located within walking distance to Fisherman's beach and the main street of Mornington, where there are several cafes, restaurants, and bars that serve a variety of cuisines and drinks.
