Description

Mary Kathleen is a small town in north-western Queensland, Australia, located in the Selwyn Range between Mount Isa and Cloncurry. It was named after the late wife of Norm McConachy, who, along with Clem Walton, discovered uranium in the town in 1954. The Mary Kathleen Uranium Mine commenced operations in 1956, and processing began in June 1958. Uranium from the mine was sold to the UK Atomic Energy Authority, German and American power utilities.
