Description

The Blue Mountains Botanic Garden, Mount Tomah, is a 28-hectare public botanic garden located in the Blue Mountains, New South Wales, Australia.

It is situated 100 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district and can be accessed from the Bells Line of Road. The garden, established in 1972, specializes in growing cool-climate plants that cannot thrive in Sydney's warmer climate. It is listed as a heritage garden and is within the UNESCO Greater Blue Mountains Area World Heritage Site. The garden is managed by the Botanic Gardens Trust, a division of the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage, which also manages the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney and the Australian Botanic Garden at Mount Annan. Additionally, 128 hectares of land have been set aside for conservation purposes.

The land where the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden, Mount Tomah is located was granted to Susannah Bowen in 1830. Susannah Bowen, the mother of George M. C. Bowen, had arrived in the colony in 1828.
