Description

Windyridge Gardens, located in Mount Wilson, is one of the oldest botanical gardens near Sydney.

Established in 1877, it has grown to include a wide variety of local and international species, making it a beautiful destination for botany enthusiasts.

At Windyridge Gardens, visitors can explore a stunning array of flora, fauna, and natural landscapes. From Cedrus deodara to copper beech, pin oaks, maples, ginkos, azaleas, rhododendrons, dogwoods, and nyssas, the gardens offer a diverse and well-preserved ecosystem. Strolling through the gardens and following the maintained trails allows visitors to immerse themselves in the beauty of the natural surroundings.

The expansion of Windyridge Gardens began in 1995 when Rodger and Wai Davidson purchased the property to accommodate their growing collection of cold climate plants. With the help of landscape architect Gordon Sykes, the gardens were transformed into a grand botanical oasis. Today, the garden is privately run and diligently maintained by the owners.

Windyridge Gardens is open to visitors year-round, but the best time to visit is in the spring when the azaleas and rhododendrons are in full bloom. This typically occurs from mid-September to early November. To reach Windyridge Gardens, visitors can drive from Sydney along the Bells Line of Road, passing through the towns of Richmond and Kurrajong. Mount Wilson is located two hours northwest of Sydney, 3000 feet above sea level. Once in Mount Wilson, signage will guide visitors to the gardens. Am
