Description

Bool Lagoon Game Reserve and Hacks Lagoon Conservation Park are two interconnected protected areas in Naracoorte, Southern Australia.

Bool Lagoon is a large freshwater lagoon system that supports a diverse range of wildlife, including rare and endangered bird species. Hacks Lagoon Conservation Park is a wetland habitat adjacent to Bool Lagoon Game Reserve.

Nature and bird enthusiasts can enjoy various activities in these areas. Visitors can drive to the top of Big Hill for stunning views of the wetlands and surrounding area. Another worthwhile drive is the route via Bool Lagoon and Moyhall Roads to Little Bool Lagoon, where many waterbirds can be observed. A 500-meter boardwalk extends over the wetlands, providing an opportunity to spot Brolgas and other bird species. The wetlands also offer a chance to listen to the sounds of insects and frogs while enjoying the beautiful scenery.

The best time to visit Bool Lagoon Game Reserve and Hacks Lagoon Conservation Park is from October to March, during the breeding season for bird species. Migratory birds can be seen during this period, and the wetlands are most active. To reach the parks, travel approximately 20 km south of Naracoorte via the Riddoch Highway and then turn onto Naracoorte Road. Follow the signage to the parks, where both sealed and unsealed roads lead to different areas of the wetlands. It is important to check the road and park conditions before starting the journey.
