Forest Park

Forest Park Orbost is a premier passive recreation area, visitor rest-stop, and gateway to the East Gippsland Rail Trail.

It offers upgraded facilities such as extensive adventure playgrounds, increased parking, a new toilet and amenities block, picnic areas, and interpretation of the gateway to the trail head. The project aims to stimulate the local economy, grow local tourism, attract retirees and 'tree changers' to reside in Orbost, and provide significant community benefits.

Community involvement was sought through in-person sessions and an online survey to gather feedback on the proposed plan. The local Project Representative Group, composed of Orbost residents, reviewed the detailed design phase of the co-designed playground suitable for children aged 1-15 years.

The construction of the Forest Park Orbost upgrade project will follow a revised schedule. The project is set to be completed by September 2024.

To reach Forest Park Orbost, one can drive for about 4.5 hours from Melbourne or approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes from Lakes Entrance. Public transport options include daily services to and from Bairnsdale station by V/Line.

The best time to visit Forest Park Orbost is during the cooler months, from March to November, when the weather is comfortably cool for outdoor activities at the park.
