Description

Heron Bend Reserve is a stunning reserve located in Overland Corner, adjacent to the River Murray. The reserve is known for its former police station and stables, as well as the beautiful river cliffs with ancient sea creature fossils. The area was dedicated to the National Trust of South Australia in 1963 and is now gazetted as a Fauna Reserve under the Fauna Conservation Act (1964/5).

The reserve is also home to a stone house, which was formerly the Police stables, situated on a parcel of land given to NTSA by Mr J Cockin in 1960.

There are plenty of things to see and do at Heron Bend Reserve. Visitors can explore the former Police stables, which have been preserved over time, and enjoy the beautiful view of the River Murray from the reserve. The reserve is also an ideal location for nature lovers, bird watchers, and fishermen. Visitors can take a quiet stroll through the reserve's bushy surroundings, appreciate the local wildlife and birds, or go fishing along the Murray River, which is a popular spot for Murray cod. This is a good time to explore the reserve's surroundings.

Heron Bend Reserve is located off Overland Corner Road, which is a short drive from Barmera or Renmark in South Australia. The reserve entry is well signposted and can be accessed via a sealed road. Visitors driving to the reserve can park in the designated area and head out onto the walking trails or to the river to enjoy the view.
