Description

Kent Group National Park is a collection of six granite islands located in Bass Strait, northwest of the Furneaux Group in Tasmania, Australia.

The islands are Deal Island, Erith Island, Dover Island, North East Isle, South West Isle, and Judgement Rocks. The park has a rich history, with seal hunting being the earliest recorded human activity in the area, dating back to at least 1803.

The Murray Pass, situated between Deal and Erith Islands, has served as a refuge for ships during storms in Bass Strait. Many vessels have been wrecked due to sudden changes in wind direction and speed, as well as grounding while seeking shelter or navigating in bad weather or darkness. Several of these incidents have resulted in significant loss of life. Some notable shipwrecks include the Brothers in 1816, the Daphne in 1819, and the Reindeer in 1862.

Despite the tragic history of shipwrecks, Kent Group National Park remains a unique and stunning destination for outdoor enthusiasts and visitors looking to experience the natural wonders of Tasmania.
