Description

Located just off the road to Bargara, Hummock Lookout Qunaba offers panoramic views of the surrounding area.

From the lookout, visitors can see the ocean to the east, the sugar fields to the west, and the smoke stacks of the Bundaberg Distillery and Mill on the horizon. The best time to visit is during the late afternoon to witness a beautiful sunset over the land and the moon rising over the ocean.

The Hummock holds historical significance for the Taribelang Bunda Aboriginal people, who were the first inhabitants of the region. They referred to the area as 'Woongarra' and considered the 'Sloping Hummock' as their 'burning mountain'. The site features a large Aboriginal art mural depicting the violent story of Paddy's Island during European settlement, which is still visible from the lookout.

Hummock Lookout Qunaba is accessible all year round with no admission fee. It is recommended to visit during the dry season (April to September) for cooler weather and less chance of rain. To reach the lookout, take the exit for Bargara Road from the Bundaberg Ring Road if driving. It is a 15-minute drive from the city centre. Alternatively, visitors can take the local bus (Route 13) from the CBD, or arrive at Bundaberg Regional Airport, which is approximately 10 minutes away from the lookout.
