This December… Jacob de Gaye will be dropping his debut album BADDEST SUMMER from the sky… Literally…
Jacob will be sky diving for the first time ever over Rottnest Island to bring the album down to the earth in an act of letting go of all fear and diving in complete surrender to his artistry.
This is the long awaited and highly anticipated album launch show at Jacob’s spiritual live music home the Indian Ocean Hotel Scarborough the place where Jacob honed his chops and carved out his vision as a musician in the early days.
This live show will bring to the stage the Baddest Summer album in it’s entirety with Jacob, known for his showmanship, raw talent, incomparable voice, conscious lyrics, electrifying movement and spine tingling guitar solos, vowing that this show will be a truly entertaining experience where you will see him take things to the next “level”.
The concept of the album is centred around the made up (for now…) 80’s arcade style video game “Baddest Summer” and all the tracks are the different “levels” of the “game”.
Just as levels on a video game are completely different in many ways, the album represents complete artistic freedom in the way that every single track is completely different in genre, feel and vibe and complete independence as an artist in the way that there has been no filter in the making of this album, no judgements, just straight from the ether through Jacob to the wax for the love of music and most of all for fun.
Imagine a full immersion video game in which, upon entry, the player’s memory that they are in a full immersion game is wiped… Imagine a game where the player has free will and is not given a clear set of rules… Imagine the purpose (which is revealed by new inner voice technology in the full immersion suit) of the game is called “dream achievement” and to achieve this purpose the player must become a superstar musician within the spawn life span of the character… Imagine to win the game of Baddest Summer the player (whilst achieving their purpose) must convert all of the darkness in their character to light and then convert as much darkness in the game field to light as possible (The more darkness converted the higher the score)…Imagine a game where the player must find the two tools to assist them with bringing light to the game world the “Emerald Voice” the “Golden Guitar” but these tools are hidden and can only be found in two different secret chambers whose keys are hidden in the hardest place to find on the game map… To unlock secret levels and bonus rounds the player must show strength in the simulated game field as most other players think it’s cool and normal to be 'bad' and live in darkness as they are ignoring their inner voice technology… The player must win strength points and collect good mana by playing the game with positivity, creativity, love, unity, motivation, wholesome living and high health vitality… Playing in the opposite to this will result in bad mana collection and points being taken off… Acquiring 10 strength points will unlock the real “BAD ASS” mode.
Finally imagine it is possible to acquire enough spirit points (by spending time in the game to work on the character and discovering the character’s connection to the great energy source behind the game, the source that keeps the game running) to leave the character astrally and remember you are just in a game and then you can stop taking it so seriously and have fun and not be scared of re-spawning… This is Baddest Summer
“In this album I’m trying to bottle the atmosphere that an arcade game creates mixed with the eary, mighty, almost scary anticipation and stillness just as the night falls before a stadium show when the smoke is rolling over the stage and the lights are low, the smell of 50 thousand excited souls in the air mixed with smooshed grass, the faint whiff of an intoxicating purfume that you will never forget and the state of ecstasy of being in the moment feeling as if the moment will last forever” - Jacob.
The album effortlessly fuses RnB, Rap, Hip Hop, Reggae, Rock, Pop, Funk, Arcade electronic and psychedelic to bring a unique, eclectic and unprecedented style of music to the universe’s soundscape.
In conclusion, Baddest Summer is centered around a notion that in a world where a lot of people think it’s normal and cool to do bad things to ourselves, others and our earth… The real 'BAD ASS’ life is positivity, creativity, love, unity, motivation, wholesome living and health.
The release of the first 5 tracks “Drop a bomb”, “Baddest Summer” (Title track), "Fool for so long", "Screens thats black" and West Australian Music Industry Song of the year nominated "Repeat after me I am free" has been met with huge buzz, even prompting a couple of talented young up and coming documentary makers Kuda Juru and Joe Hinton to start documenting the last few months leading up to the launch.
